We are never¬†really authentic. Yes, people crave authenticity but…think about it. We are always grooming in a certain way to show up for our external environment.

When coming up with your personal brand, I really think like, “Who am I here for? And who do I want to serve?” I mean, we’re talking about professional, personal branding. And there has to be some goals and purpose to this. We’re not just doing this to be vain.

We’re doing this to further our career, to get more customers, to build thought leadership, so that we can build up and get a better role, get, get better opportunities. There’s all sorts of reasons that we could do this, but the real honest and clear about that, and then also, like, who then is going to consume that content? Who’s going to be interested in your brand? And that will help to shape it, you know?

I think Seth talked about this in the podcast, but, you know, we always worry about manufacturing ourselves and not being authentic, but like, we’re never authentic, you know? We’re always holding a part of ourselves back. We’re always grooming in a certain way. We’re always wearing certain things. Heck, this shirt is part of my personal brand, like showing up wearing like, a cool flannel, you know, shirt is part of my personal brand because I work with, you know, recreational brands and yeah, lifestyle brands and things like that.

Someone in the chat called me out for my earrings, that I always wear a fun pair of earrings. I was like, “Oh that must be part of my personal brand!”

Yeah, well, it is. And people get to know you for that. And that becomes part of who you are. And so as we start to sculpt it, think about well, who’s on the other side of that? I mean, we are literally doing this for other people. I mean, I hate to break it to y’all. That’s what’s happening. And so think about that.
